Meet Your Instructor  

My name is Mr. Torres. My students know me as Mr. T. This is my 10th year working with KISD, and I'm going into my 5th year as percussion director for the Tivy Band. Just a little background on me, I graduated from Texas Tech University in 2008. I have worked at multiple schools including: Lubbock High School, James Bowie High School, Runge High School, and Beeville ISD. During my high school and college years, I marched in multiple groups including: Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps, Kiwanis Kavilers , and the Boston Crusaders. In addition to DCI, I have experience in WGI with the world-class group Surround Sound.   

I have a beautiful wife, Megan, and my not-so-little daughter Avery, or “Little T.” They are very supportive and very loud for the band and percussion program. Especially as my wife was a former colorguard member at Tivy. In my free time, I love to relax with my family, play occasional video games, and help at my local church. 

Percussion Instructors:

Munoz, Zarek

With over 20 years of drumming experience, Zarek Munoz has built a lifelong passion for percussion. He began in high school drumline and continued through college, gaining extensive ensemble and solo experience along the way.

In 2012, he was recognized as a state soloist for four-mallet marimba, an achievement that helped him earn a full-ride scholarship to college for marimba performance.

For the past 11 years, Zarek Munoz has focused on teaching, working with students of all ages to develop strong fundamentals, confidence, and musical expression. His blend of performance background and dedication to education allows him to inspire and guide the next generation of percussionists.

Percussion Equipment & Resources

In order for the percussion program to be successful each student needs to have their own sticks and mallets. 
Unlike wind players, percussionists usually do not have to buy any of their own instruments. Therefore, they are expected to purchase their own sticks and mallets
