Meet Your Instructor  

Hello, I’m Mr. Torres, the percussion director at Tivy High School. This is my ninth year with KISD and my fourth year in the band program. With over 15 years of percussion experience, I've had the privilege of performing with several DCI groups, including Pioneer, Kiwanis Kavaliers, and Boston Crusaders, as well as WGI with Surround Sound. I actively contribute during both the Marching and Concert seasons and I’m proud to lead the Tivy Winter Ensemble, which features our indoor drumline and Winterguard.

 

Outside of my work with percussion students, I cherish time spent at home with my amazing wife, Megan, and our daughter, Avery. I also stay engaged in my community through church activities and volunteering whenever I can.

Munoz, Zarek

With over 20 years of drumming experience, Zarek Munoz has built a lifelong passion for percussion. He began in high school drumline and continued through college, gaining extensive ensemble and solo experience along the way.

In 2012, he was recognized as a state soloist for four-mallet marimba, an achievement that helped him earn a full-ride scholarship to college for marimba performance.

For the past 11 years, Zarek Munoz has focused on teaching, working with students of all ages to develop strong fundamentals, confidence, and musical expression. His blend of performance background and dedication to education allows him to inspire and guide the next generation of percussionists.

Percussion Equipment & Resources

In order for the percussion program to be successful each student needs to have their own sticks and mallets. 
Unlike wind players, percussionists usually do not have to buy any of their own instruments. Therefore, they are expected to purchase their own sticks and mallets
